Colin Parker, Headmaster
It is with great sadness and deep sense of loss that we have learned that Colin Parker, Headmaster at King Edward VI Aston School, has died. His sudden and unexpected death has shocked us all and we extend our deepest sympathy and condolences to Mrs. Parker, his family and all at Aston. Colin was appointed Head at Aston in 2004 and led the school with distinction and humanity, soon becoming one of the Foundation’s most respected Heads. I knew Colin through his attendance at many Foundation meetings and he was the best of colleagues. In addition to the deep knowledge and extensive experience he brought to discussion, his contribution had balance, foresight and wisdom. Although quiet, modest and self-effacing, his contribution to the Foundation’s developments were significant and substantial. Seeing the need for the Foundation to extend its reach to much wider groups of Birmingham children and families, he brought to our discussions a sound judgement, integrity and honesty which were instrumental in moving us forward.
To say that Colin will be greatly missed by us all as a colleague is self-evident and it is a tragic loss for colleagues at Aston. It is a tribute to his leadership qualities that I have no doubt they will rise to the challenge of supporting each other while working together over the coming weeks.
On behalf of the Foundation, Hywel Thomas, Chair of the Foundation
