Music
Welcome to the music department.
We promote the enjoyment and appreciation of music in all its forms through practical music-making and listening in the classroom.
The music department is an active and vibrant part of school life at Aston with large numbers of boys involved in both instrumental lessons and music groups. Everyone is encouraged to take part in extra-curricular groups, regardless of their ability. Practical music-making is at the heart of the curriculum and the opportunities for musical creativity through technology and computers are encouraged from Year 7 onwards. Our aim is to encourage as many boys as possible to be involved in music, experiencing music-making at every level of ability.
In Year 7 we will cover the elements of music focusing on the keyboard and the study of orchestral instruments with an exciting visit to Symphony Hall to experience a live concert. You will compose your own pieces using professional music software.
Extra-curricular groups rehearse every morning before school, and I would encourage you to get involved. Our vibrant lower school choir has more than 50 members and perform a wide variety of songs regularly throughout the year.
A new term in a new school is the perfect time to begin your musical journey.
